 It is heartening that the recent catastrophic events in Japan met with such empathy from the entire world. I would like to let you know that a well-known Ukrainian composer and producer Mikhail Nekrasov, (lyrics by Evgeny Matyushenko) and a talented and popular Ukrainian pop-diva Zlata Ognevich created a song dedicated to our country, its people and the selfless heroes who have been risking their health and perhaps lives but spared no effort at the aftermath of Fukushima power plant incident.

 On March 19-20, yet another annual jazz festival “Edinstvo” (“Unity”) took place in the Kiev Operetta Theater. Among innovative and talented musicians, who participated in the festival, there was Kumiko Ando, a young Japanese pianist. She performed both her original jazz improvisations and jazz transcriptions of music by a famous Russian composer Alexander Shulgin, based on his new jazz instrumental album “Triptych”.

 Every summer, a jazz festival is held in Tokyo. Its perennial honorary guest is Hiromi Uehara, a famous jazz pianist and a disciple of Chick Corea, a prodigiously talented, highly recognized and celebrated jazz musician and composer. Chick Corea has won 15 Grammy awards and received 51 Grammy nominations. Over the years, he launched and founded several famous jazz bands, such as Circle, Elektric Band, New Trio, Origin, and others. Chick Corea is quite well-known and popular in Russia and in the Commonwealth of Independent States, however, for the most part, he tours North America, Asia, and Europe. His fans, the fans of outstanding jazz, are trying to keep up with his tour appearances while traveling to different countries.
